SECTION 69 IPC : Prisoner release upon payment of a portion of the fine.If a portion of the fine is paid or levied before the end of the duration of imprisonment set for nonpayment, such that the term of imprisonment endured for nonpayment is not less than proportional to the portion of the fine still owed, the imprisonment will end.

Illustration A gets given a 100 rupee fine and four months in jail if they don’t make their payments. In this case, if the fine of 75 rupees is paid or assessed before the end of the first month of the sentence, A will be released as soon as the first month has passed. A will be released right away if 75 is paid, assessed, or imposed at the end of the first month of imprisonment or at any other time within that period. A will be released from custody as soon as the two months are up if the fine of fifty rupees is paid in full or imposed before that time. A will be released right away if fifty rupees are paid or imposed at the end of those two months, or at any other time while they are still in custody.
