SECTION 76 IPC : A person who, inadvertently or otherwise, believes themselves to be bound by law.—Nothing that is done by someone who is, or who in good faith thinks themselves to be, bound by the law to do it due to an error of fact rather than an error of law, is an offense.

Illustrations
(a) On the instruction of his superior officer and in accordance with the law, soldier A opens fire on a throng. A has not violated any laws.
(b) A, a justice department employee who has been directed by that court to make an arrest, believes Z to be Y after conducting a thorough investigation. A is innocent of any wrongdoing.
