Indian Penal Code Section 246: — Fraudulent or dishonestly reducing the weight or modifying the composition of a coin. Whoever fraudulently or dishonestly performs on any coin any operation that reduces its weight or modifies its composition shall be punished with imprisonment of either kind for a term that may not exceed three years, and shall also be subject to a fine. Justification. —When a person removes a portion of a coin and replaces it with another substance, the coin’s composition is altered.
