SECTION 65 IPC : When both imprisonment and a fine may be awarded, the maximum period of incarceration is permitted.—If the offense carries a mandatory minimum sentence of imprisonment as well as a fine, the length of time the court orders the offender to serve in jail in lieu of payment of a fine cannot be longer than one-fourth of that sentence.
