IPC SECTION 9

SECTION 9 IPC : According to Section 9 of the Indian Penal Code, “unless the contrary appears from the context, words importing the singular number include the plural number, and words importing the plural number include the singular number.”

To put it simply, in grammar, we employ the singular to denote only one, as in Fallon. And use the plural to show a lot, like many cars. In the law, terms that introduce solitary numbers include those that introduce plural numbers, such as a vending machine. It will contain every vending machine in the neighborhood.

A gave an estate to “his nearest relation,” but this estate will be given to all of A’s relations in the same degree who are closest to him. Words that refer to the plural also encompass the singular. Unless something to the contrary is mentioned in a will.
